What is strategic management?

Strategic management is the analysis, decisions, planning and actions of an organisation in order to create and sustain competitive advantages. Strategic management is used to determine mission, vision, values, goals, objectives, roles and responsibilities, timelines, etc

Who is involved in strategic management in your school and why is it important?

Why is it important? Strategic management is important because it helps to set detailed goals, analyse all our internal and external resources and our external environment, as well as stakeholder views. Good corporate organisations need an efficient strategic management process/plan in order to provide effective and efficient services or product that are in keeping with current environmental and societal trends.

Strategic partnership working in schools Schools work together to plan an annual calendar of competitive sport, festivals and events. Incorporated into this are LRS and School Games Organisers. Many areas have strategic groups made up of head teachers and heads of sport, who champion PE and School Sport and ensure that progress and development is being made across the county and consistently with each other.

What is the difference between strategy and policy? Strategy is a plan, or method of approach developed by an individual, group, or organization, in an effort to successfully achieve an overall goal or objective. Policy refers to a definite course of action adopted by an individual, group, or organization in an effort to promote the best practice particular to desired results.

1. Environmental Scanning Environmental scanning refers to a process of collecting, scrutinizing and providing information for strategic purposes

2. Strategy Formulation Strategy formulation is the process of deciding best course of action for accomplishing organizational objectives and hence achieving organizational purpose. After conducting environment scanning, managers formulate corporate, business and functional strategies.

Strategy Implementation Strategy implementation implies making the strategy work as intended or putting the organization’s chosen strategy into action. Strategy implementation includes designing the organization’s structure, distributing resources, developing decision making process, and managing human resources.

Strategy Evaluation Strategy evaluation is the final step of strategy management process. The key strategy evaluation activities are: measuring performance, reviewing effects of internal and external factors and taking remedial / corrective actions. Evaluation makes sure that the organisational strategy, as well as it’s implementation, meets the organisational objectives.

What is sports diplomacy Politics and sports or sports diplomacy describes the use of sport as a means to influence diplomatic, social, and political relations. Sports diplomacy may transcend cultural differences and bring people together It can have both positive and negative affects!

Mohammad Ali – using his sporting status to affect political agendas He then became an icon of not only the civil rights struggle, but also the anti- Vietnam War movement. Politics influence the direction of sports development with regards to funding and social/demographic focus. Sports diplomacy is used to bring about changes to sports to meet the requirements of society and an ever changing environment. Sport diplomacy aims to keep sport exciting, entertaining and beneficial for all people of society.

Strategic objectives in School Sport and PE To increase the number of recreational sport clubs Increase the number of children participating in at least one after school club Increase the number of children doing 1 x 60 minutes of physical activity per day Increase the number of competitive sports teams during the year Ensure that all teachers are graded ‘good’ for PE teaching by the end of the academic year
