Somatoform Disorders

Somatoform Disorder  Can create a wide variety of physical symptoms for which there is no physical cause.

Conversion Disorder  When an emotional difficulties are turned into the los of a physical function. Loss of the functioning is real, but no actual physical damage is present. It persists.  People are calm when it occurs is a symptom of disorder.  People unconsciously invent physical symptoms to gain freedom from unbearable conflict.  Hysteria Blindness  Saw something awful – now can not see

Hypochondriasis  A person in good health that is preoccupied with imaginary ailments  The person spends a lot of time looking for signs of serious illness and often misinterprets minor aches, bumps, pains for an early sign of a fatal illness  Doctors can not change their minds  Hypochondriacs can not believe that a disease is not present.  Equal between the sexes
