What is Science?

Research presented Aug. 23, 2012 at the International Astronomical Union General Assembly in Beijing has found the first group of galaxies that is just like ours, a rare sight in the local Universe. Discovering new galaxies using satellite imaging from outer space

Dzarul Dol Malek used biology and chemistry skills in order to help stop burning fossil fuels Creating 'green' energy that does not rely on burning fossil fuels

Science Daily (Aug. 22, 2012) — NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has begun driving from its landing site, which scientists announced today they have named for the late author Ray Bradbury. Sending probes and rovers to our neighboring moon and planets to explore the surfaces to find more about our solar system

Creating devices that enable us to make breakthroughs in the medical field, which save people's lives!! ScienceDaily (Mar. 2, 2012) Engineering researchers at the University of Michigan designed a device that harvests energy from the reverberation of heartbeats through the chest and converts it to electricity to run a pacemaker or an implanted defibrillator. ScienceDaily (Aug. 22, 2012) — Using bioluminescent proteins from a jellyfish, a team of scientists has lit up the inside of a neuron, capturing spectacular video footage that shows the movement of proteins throughout the cell.

Making careful observations of our Earth to detect imbalances, and taking actions to preserve life for the future ScienceDaily (Aug. 20, 2012) — Many marine species will be harmed or won't survive if the levels of carbon dioxide continue to increase. The Great Barrier Reef in Australia already has been affected by ocean warming and acidification. About 125,000 different species of marine animal species living in the world's oceans, inhabit the coral reefs. Coral Reef regulates carbon dioxide levels in the oceans. Carbon dioxide regulation is very essential and without the corals or coral reefs there would be an imbalance of carbon dioxide levels that would severely impact all marine creatures.

Science is … People working to solve everyday problems that face society Researchers running tests to uncover answers about our world using evidence Creatively finding solutions to problems using different types of tools and technology
