Vs "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.”
When? Matthew 24:3 “As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples (James, John, Peter & Andrew – Mark 13:3) came to Him privately, saying, Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
Where?
Who? Jesus (“Son of God” & “Son of Man”), His angels, The people of the nations (Sheep & Goats), “My brethren” (Jews and/or The Church – Jew & Gentile)
Two Main Views It will occur at the beginning of an earthly millennial kingdom. Its purpose will be to determine who will be allowed to enter the kingdom. The criterion for judgment will be the kind of treatment shown to the Jews during the preceding great tribulation period.
Two Main Views The judgment referred is a detailed account of the “Great White Throne Judgment” at the end of the next age. Its purpose will be to determine who will be allowed to enter the eternal kingdom of the saved and who will be assigned to eternal punishment in hell.
Matthew 16:27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS …” (NASB95)
Jeremiah 17:10 “I the L ORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” (ESV)
Matthew 24:30-31 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
Joel 3:1–12 “In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel,
Joel 3:1-12 for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land…Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side.” (NIV)
Malachi 3:18 “So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.” NASB95

Vs "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
John 10:14–16 “I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
John 10:14-16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. (NASB95)
Acts 9:4–5 “…and he (Saul) fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ And he said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting’” (NASB95)
Romans 2:14–16 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts,
Romans 2:14–16 their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. (NASB95)
“Good Works?” Rev. 20:12 And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. Matt. 16:27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS …”
Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (NASB95)
Those who are saved by faith will be judged by their works, since their works show how much they were willing to deny themselves in the service of others. Iain Campbell, Opening Up Matthew
2 Corinthians 5:9–10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (NIV84)
“Nobody at any time in the history of the world was ever saved by good works (alone).” Warren Wiersbe
James 2:14–26 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,”
James 2:14-26 but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead…For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Vs “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You … inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”
Matthew 10:40–42 “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me…And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.” (NASB95)
Vs "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 'for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 'I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
“Those who have lived their lives without any reference to God have demonstrated who they are by their self-centeredness and self-interest. There were no deeds of kindness, nothing at all done out of love to God.” Ian Campbell
Vs “Then they also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?' Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’”
James 4:17 “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
Barclay Those who helped did not think that they were helping Christ and thus piling up eternal merit; they helped because they could not stop themselves. It was the natural, instinctive, quite uncalculating reaction of the loving heart…
Barclay Whereas, on the other hand, the attitude of those who failed to help was; ‘If we had known it was you we would gladly have helped; but we thought it was only some common man who was not worth helping.”
Barclay It is still true that there are those who will help if they are given praise and thanks and publicity; but to help like that is not to help, it is to pander to self-esteem. Such help is not generosity; it is disguised selfishness. The help which wins the approval of God is that which is given for nothing but the sake of helping.
Vs. 46 "And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
