Dietary needs Complete the battleships activity in pairs to identify the nutritional needs at each life stage

Task One You are to produce a poster showing the dietary and nutritional needs of young people (5-18 years). In the poster it must say how young people need correct foods to: To help growth To promote good health for developmental change To make growth quicker To help bones and muscle

Young People Children are forever growing and are very active and so must have a good supply of nutrients to help sustain and support their growth. Young people need food which will help to support their increased activity, therefore they need high energy foods such as bread, potatoes, meat, fruit and vegetables During adolescence and puberty the body goes through lots of changes certain nutrients are needed to help promote good health for the developmental changes that puberty brings. Growth in boys during puberty is rapid, faster than any other life stage. Therefore their diet needs to support this. Protein is needed to help their increased growth spurt and help maintain body tissue. Calcium and Vitamin us also needed to help support the increased gains in bone and tissue growth. Also During female puberty and developmental changes Iron is very important to help stop anaemia during their periods.

Young people need plenty of: Protein for growth and repair Calcium for development of bone and teeth Vitamins D to help calcium absorption Iron to prevent anaemia Vitamin C to help with absorption of iron.

The main thing for young people is to eat enough for to support their GROWTH with as much variety in nutrients as possible.
