Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher BTEC IT Unit 05 - Lesson 09 Impact of Emerging Technologies

Session Objectives Understand the impacts which emerging technologies have had on different aspects of life.

Emerging Technologies Over the last few lessons we have looked at a range of different emerging technologies and for P3 we have identified them along with some of the key features, As a stretch and challenge activity some of you may have already identified the impacts of some of these technologies, M1 requires you to comment on how new technologies along with examples have impacted on 3 topics…. Enhanced capabilities (ability for the network to do more), New work methods, Ease of use.

Enhanced Capabilities Impacts (+ve / -ve) of these techs to consider  IPv6  Tablets  Increased internet speed (broadband & 4G)  Cloud  Online Gaming  Biometrics  HTML 5  Greater Storage Capacity  Video on Demand

New Work Methods Impacts (+ve / -ve) of these techs to consider  Tablets  Cloud  4G  Faster Broadband  Public WiFi Spots  VDI  RMON

Ease of Use Impacts (+ve / -ve) of these techs to consider  Tablets  Biometrics  Voice, authentication, sense  QR Codes  Video on Demand  Web Interfacing

Example of how Teleworking is being used in the USA state of Virgina Main impacts from the video Location of work, Patterns of work, Skills needed to work, Impact on social aspects, Balance of responsibility, Leisure time, Environmental impacts

Evidencing M1 TASK 1 PART C This task requires you to make some separate notes which clearly describe the impacts of emerging technology – this may have been touched upon in the descriptions made for P3 but for M1 needs to be more focused, Your notes need to focus on the following sub-headings: Enhanced capabilities, New work methods, Ease of use. You will need to give examples of technologies which have contributed to each sub-heading. M1 requires you to have given thought to how emerging technologies have, or may, affect networks. The effects may best be described by use of examples. Describe means give a detailed account. M1 – Describe the potential impact of emerging network technologies FOCUS AS HEADING Technology as subheading - Clear statement how technology relates to the focus - Description with examples of how that technology impacts “what difference does it make?” FOCUS AS HEADING Technology as subheading - Clear statement how technology relates to the focus - Description with examples of how that technology impacts “what difference does it make?”
