Have you made it the last 40 days without a single sin?

Exodus 19:5 (NIV) 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.

Exodus 20:1–2 (NIV) 1 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the L ORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Exodus 20:3–4 (NIV) 3 “You shall have no other gods before me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

Exodus 20:5–6 (NIV) 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the L ORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

Exodus 20:6–7 (NIV) 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the L ORD your God, for the L ORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Exodus 20:8–9 (NIV) 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

Exodus 20:10 (NIV) 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the L ORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.

Exodus 20:11 (NIV) 11 For in six days the L ORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the L ORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the L ORD your God is giving you.

Exodus 20:13–16 (NIV) 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

Exodus 20:17 (NIV) 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Exodus 24:3 (NIV) 3 When Moses went and told the people all the L ORD ’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the L ORD has said we will do.”

Exodus 24:4 (NIV) 4 Moses then wrote down everything the L ORD had said.

Exodus 24:7 (NIV) 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people.

Exodus 24:3 (NIV) 3 When Moses went and told the people all the L ORD ’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the L ORD has said we will do.”

Have YOU made it the last 40 days without a single sin?

As soon as you sin, you loose control of the consequences?

Exodus 24:3 (NIV) “Everything the L ORD has said we will do.”

What does God do with great intentioned people who sin?.

Exodus 24:12 (NIV) 12 The L ORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”

Exodus 24:18 (NIV) 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Exodus 24:17 (NIV) 17 To the Israelites the glory of the L ORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.

Exodus 32:1 (NIV) 1 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

When fear drives us…

Exodus 32:2 (NIV) 2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.”

When fear drives you, sin consumes you. When sin consumes you, consequences ruin you.

When you are caught in a sin, never try and excuse it, never try and manage the consequences —you can’t.

Numbers 32:23 (NIV) 23 “But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the L ORD ; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

Exodus 32:8 (NIV) 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf.

Exodus 32:10 (NIV) 10 Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”

Exodus 32:11 (NIV) 11 But Moses sought the favor of the L ORD his God.

Have you made it the last 40 days without a single sin?

There is only one way to approach God about sin: Without excuse thrust yourself upon the favor of your God.

Genesis 3:12 (NIV) 12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

Genesis 3:13 (NIV) 13 Then the L ORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Exodus 32:21 (NIV) 21 He said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you led them into such great sin?”

Exodus 32:22 (NIV) 22 “Do not be angry, my lord,” Aaron answered. “You know how prone these people are to evil.

Exodus 32:23 (NIV) 23 They said to me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.’

Exodus 32:24 (NIV) 24 So I told them, ‘Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.’ Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!”

When you sin you loose control of the consequences.

There is one and only one appropriate response when you have sinned: thrust yourself upon the Grace of God.

Exodus 34:5–6 (NIV) 5 Then the L ORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the L ORD. 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The L ORD, the L ORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,

Exodus 34:7 (NIV) 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

Acknowledge your sin without excuse, and thrust yourself upon the favor of God.
