My name is Dasha. I am a second-year student of a College of Urban Development, Transport and Technologies №41 in Moscow. In the future I am going to be a geodesist.

Last summer I visited my mum. She lives in Denver, USA. I want to share my impressions of this journey. I spent there 1 month.

Once upon a time a small group of gold diggers settled down in the great plain. That’s how the story of Denver began.

Nowadays it is a metropolis, the capital of U.S. state Colorado with a population of 600 thousand people.

The city is about 1,609 m above the sea level which is exactly one mile. For some travelers it may take a few days to adjust. Denver’s nickname is « the Mile High City ».

70 % of population speak English. In the center of the city there are lots of skyscrapers. In the neighbourhood people prefer living in cottages.

Every day, I walked over the city. Denver is one of the sunniest cities in the USA with almost 300 days of sunshine. It’s even more than in Florida. I took pictures, went shopping. People are very hospitable and friendly.

People love gathering together. They have a strong sense of community. They celebrate holidays together and help each other in trouble.

American life style is usual. It doesn’t differ much from ours. They go to work, bring up children, have a rest, travel.

Denver’s restaurants serves a diverse cuisine. Foodies from all over the world come here to try famous Rocky Mountain Oysters. It is rather exotic. Of course, fast food is welcomed here, it is America. By the way, the Cheeseburger was created in north Denver.

The city has a great cowboy past. Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave invites lovers of Old West to visit exhibits on Buffalo Bill's life, the Wild West shows and Indian artifacts.

Denver still keeps traditions alive. The National Western Stock Show attracts more than half of million people every year. Horse shows, parades, rodeos, catch-a-calf contest, livestock shows and sales take 16 days.

The city has dozens of art galleries and museums. I have been lucky to spend great time at Denver Art Museum. It owns artworks including pictures by Vincent Van Gogh and Salvador Dalí.

Denver is a home of seven professional sport teams. Basketball, baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, rugby are played all over the year. The most popular teams are « The Colorado Avalanche » and « The Denver Broncos ».

The amusing fact about Denver – it is the only city in the world’s history who turned down (refused) the opportunity to host the Olympic games.

Lots of tourist come to Denver to see the great Rocky Mountains. The Rocky Mountain National Park is in a short car drive from Denver. It has hundreds of miles of hiking tracks. 150 lakes, 60 mountains to enjoy.

f I was on the top of the range and I enjoyed its views very much. They are breathtaking and inspiring.

It’s hard to believe that the scenery has been forming for two billion years.

When I was on the top of the mountain, I was thinking about beauty of nature. If I had a chance, I would make a map of the mountains on my own.

Every time I am in America, I like the American people and the place. I have a really nice time. I wish I learn more about this unbelievable country.
