SUMMARY People in Bunol, a town in Spain, holds a tomato fight on the last Wednesday of August. In 1945, some young guys pushed others in a parade by accident, and they threw each other with tomatoes which were from the costermongers. When these guys met the next year, they started a fight again by tossing tomatoes they prepared at people. The festival was called “Tomatina” since then, and people have a tomatoes war every year.

MY RESPONSE The war can also be fun. Although having a tomato fight may be dangerous, I still want to paint myself red with tomatoes. If you want to join this tomato war, you’d better book a room first and do not wear your favorite skirt. You need to be careful in the battlefield when something red flying over your head.

SUMMARY People in Yenshui, a village in Taiwan, celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival by setting firecrackers. About 200 years ago, people pray to Kwangong to make the terrible disease away. They followed the god’s word to set off firecrackers, soon the disease was gone. Because the firecracker houses look like beehives, they are also called “bee shots”. This activity has been held every year since then.

MY RESPONSE I think setting bee shots is more dangerous than throwing tomatoes. If you want to join the festival, you must be careful. It’s better to have adults with you when you join the war. It’s good to cooperate with others when they are praying to the God.
