PBS & Physical Intervention ‘Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) is an approach that blends values about the rights of people with disabilities with a practical science about how learning and behaviour change occur. The overriding goal of positive behavioural support is to enhance quality of life for individuals and their support providers’ (Horner, 1999) Restrictive Physical intervention is the use of force to control a person’s behaviour.

What does Physical Intervention mean in practice Focus should always be on non- physical reactive strategies. Risks assessment including medical risks. The purpose of physical intervention. It is not a sign of failure. Routine assessment for physical or psychological distress. Clearly documented. Debrief with all involved.
