Spring Testing ACT April 19 – ACT Testing May 3 - ACT Make up

ACT Bootcamp Takeaways - Sent on March 24  Prep students to be successful, but be careful how you frame it up. Otherwise, they may just guess or skim the whole test.  Students have 36 seconds to answer each of the English questions  1 minute to answer each of the math questions  52 seconds to answer each of the science and reading questions  For the reading portion of the test, students can answer most of the questions by skimming or not reading the passage at all. (Careful how this is framed up for students)  The science tests very little science. If students can analyze and decipher graphs and charts, they will be successful.  On the writing portion, the more you write, the better your chances. The average scoring time for the writing is 1 minute. Accordion structure would fit nicely!  Doing well on the ACT is not the same as doing well in the classroom.  Bubble as many correct answers as possible and if you run out of time, bubble the same letter. (Another area of caution on how this is framed up)  Cross out best and write in according to the text  Main idea – subject or topic repeated the most  Not penalized for a wrong answer, take your best guess (Answer the ones you know, first and then take your best guess)  Answers are not in order of difficulty, they are random. Not penalized for guessing, unless you are guessing on the whole test  Time management – get as many correct as possible  If you can’t point to it in the text, it is the wrong answer  Don’t worry if you have all the same in a row. (All C’s on 4 or 5 answers)  Order of operations is important on the math  Use Accordion on the writing portion and make sure you get to the third page.  They have to write, so practice writing is not a bad idea.  Resources available in library and career center. Red Books to be ordered. What can you do as a department? What can we do as a school to prepare?

What can we do? *Math Prep *Library weekly questions
