Discussion Points for CalTF 2 Appropriate baseline: as measured, ECM only (new or old), mixed ECM and shaded pole? Upstream rebate, downstream rebate, or direct install Is there an incremental cost? Blended deemed value of freezers and mid-temp or separate rebates? Calculate climate zone specific savings due to the efficiency changes of the condensing unit per the outside conditions? Collect data during early program implementation in order to roll out measure without delays?  Update workpaper in 1 year as needed  Case type blend (% mid and % low temp)  Existing motor types (% ECM, SP, PSC) PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Base Case Measure Case Electronically Commutated Motor No code for case evap motors/fans  T24 code for refrigerated warehouses <1hp ECM Operate 24/7 or very nearly No variable speed used in market Shaded Poles also exist in marketplace Base case will be firmed up (ECM or blend of ECM/SP) Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor No change to external controls Drop in retrofit Packaged assembly of fan and motor Roughly equal cost to base case Measure cost will be firmed up (only 1 vendor right now) 3 Measure Description PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Application 5/26/2016 PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 4 Food retail reach-in refrigerated cases Closed and open, low-temp and mid-temp Supermarkets/groceries have 80% share Other building types not excluded but supermarkets/groceries targeted, especially for direct install 9-12W evaporator fans Other fan sizes include 4-8W and 38-50W 10 minute install Facility Type # in CA 9-12 W per site Total CA base units Supermarkets and other grocery stores 8, ,748,323 Convenience stores 2,373716,611 Specialty food stores 2, ,800 Liquor stores3,81527,630 Drug stores4,435835,480 Gas stations with convenience stores 6,089212,178

5 Technology Details Savings derived from elimination of supply power rectification during the majority of operation  ECMs require continuous AC-DC rectification which incurs efficiency losses  The new technology uses a Hall effect sensor to verify synchronous speed and only uses rectification when needed for correction (mostly at start up) Manufacturer claims better reliability and durability due to simplified electronics Made possible by improved cost effectiveness of the internal electronics and manufacturing processes Scalable to other food retail evaporator fan sizes for additional future offerings PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Qualifying Product 6 Currently only one manufacturer with one product (9-12 W model) Ready for distribution with supply chain established  Near future smaller and larger models forthcoming Product class defined by motor type, size, rated efficiency, and rectification control PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Abstract Data Source ORNL Study 7 Side-by-side supermarket demonstration of 2 pre-existing ECMs vs. 2 replacement PMSMs in a vertical, reach-in refrigerated case. Power factor improvement 1 – From literature source 2 – From ORNL test (N=2) Motor TypeInput power [W] Shaded pole ECM, old ECM, new PMSM PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Abstract Data Source SDG&E ET Study 8 Pre-post M&V of 173 fan retrofit at a supermarket in San Diego.  Mix of low-temp and mid-temp reach-in vertical cases (43% freezers, 57% mid-temp).  Continuous breaker-level monitoring, case air condition monitoring, and spot measurements during retrofit.  Includes refrigeration system effects resulting from decreased motor heat load (differing low and mid-temp COP).  Showed early retirement payback of about 5.6 years (without incentive). Parameter Fan motor mid temp Fan motor low temp Refrigeration mid temp Refrigeration low temp Blended Baseline on-peak power [W] Post on-peak power [W] On-peak demand reduction [W] Baseline energy [kWh/yr] Post energy [kWh/yr] Energy savings [kWh/yr] PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Abstract Methods 9 We propose a blended average of low temp and mid temp based on the data collected at the ET study.  Blend ratios can be improved via program data collection, if needed.  Can help avoid freeridership on low-temp rebate that would likely occur if there were two rebate levels. The savings for the mid temp use the assumptions that the fans are running 8,760 hours per year and the refrigeration cycle has an efficiency of 1 kW/ton. The savings for the low temp use the assumption that fans are running 8,577 hours year (23.5 hrs a day to account for 30 min of defrost cycle) and the refrigeration cycle has an efficiency of 2 kW/ton. Climate zone and refrigeration system variability ignored due to <10% affect on savings and to reduce complexity (18% difference of the 30% savings attributable to refrigeration). Per Unit Measure Costs (Installed)  Roughly equivalent to ECM cost  Vendor quote ranges from $58 to $75 hardware cost per unit  Installed cost is roughly $95  ER incremental cost: $95  Source: Manufacturer/vendor and refrigeration service contractor  Will firm up unit costs with vendor in near term Proposed measure EUL  15 years  PG&E Fisher Nickel report 2005 and other workpapers identify lifespan of ECMs and SP as 15 years  Would enable 5 year RUL for ER install type 10 Proposed Parameters PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016

Program Implementation 12 Program Goal: Achieve early retirement of existing units and ensure ensure that ROB do not re-install ECMs, shaded pole, or PSC Units: 9-12W fan assembly Measure Application and Delivery Type  Downstream deemed rebate per fan (ROB ER blend)  Upstream program to vendors (ROB)  Direct install (ER) Eligibility  Climate Zones: All (negligible dependence)  Building Types: Food retail (supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, etc.) Target Market  Any food retailer with reach-in refrigerated cases  Education and solicitation of refrigeration service providers  Could target supermarkets and grocery stores specifically due to their large market share (DI added value) Market Potential  Based on US Census data and ORNL estimates, there are roughly 1,965,000 fan assemblies of this size in California  100% market transformation would result in 207 GWh/year savings and 24.0 MW on-peak demand reduction. Program may cut out at 50% as measure becomes ISP. PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 5/26/2016
