Zack The Book Review

Overall Review The book, Zack, is a thrilling book that has left me wondering if there is a sequel to the book! I found that this book combined the feelings of happiness and hatred very well. Every bit of this book, in my opinion was an extremely good read. As a rating, I would give it ten out of ten because it was almost as if someone was painting an image in my head. I highly recommend that you read this book because it is so moving and emotional.

Story Review The story overall was actually very different than what you would normally expect in a novel. Instead of having a happy fairy tale sort of ending, it showed how the family started to recover after a long period of hatred and racism. It was very interesting to read because the words that the author, William Bell used fit together very well. My rating of the story, I would give it eight out of ten because there are some “explicit” words.

Zack’s Life Zack, the main character of the book, is a teenaged boy who thinks that it was unfair for him to move to the country. He faces hardships in trying to meet new people while he was on his journey down to the south only because of the color of his skin. He soon learns about the history of his mother’s side of the family and learns about the truth about his grandfather. In the end, Zack graduated and his family began to try and know his grandfather better.

Zack’s Family Zack is an only child, but, there are still more people in his family, such as his parents, Etta and Thom, or his grandparents. The one mysterious relative that was hidden from Zack for a very long time was his grandfather on his mother’s side of the family, Lucas Straight. Why? Well, Lucas was never in favor of his daughter marrying a white man, so he never wanted to speak to his daughter again, until the end of the book.

The Trip To Natchez Zack’s trip to Natchez was a long trip, but, he did manage to get to his destination. His long trip was supposed to be one to recover what happened in the past that separated his mother and his grandfather. After all the trouble that he had went through, he had come to one conclusion. His grandfather never approved Etta marrying a white man because of racism.

Zack’s Findings In the beginning of the book, Zack found some interesting artifacts, which were, a gold nugget, a old box and a neck iron. After many, many chapters, Zack sold his gold nugget so that it would provide money for him to visit his grandfather in Natchez. These artifacts were also used in Zack’s amazing report which had won a history prize.

History Award! As the book has stated before, Zack had won a history award from the report that he had managed to salvage in a small amount of time. His grade for history ended up as a B which is in fact, very good since he salvaged his mark. The history award made Zack have a better chance to get into a university, only if he has a major in history.
