WHAT HAPPENS? IMPACT OF SPECIFIC VOLCANO

DANGERS OF VOLCANOES Volcanoes are dangerous because of lava flows, ash falls, and climate changes around the globe, etc. The only time volcanoes are dangerous are when they are active! If your around a volcano when it’s active, it’s very dangerous because you’re targeted to be caught in lava flows, ash falls and other things that we’ve said before. If you’re near a active volcano, evacuate!

HOW DO VOLCANOES WORK? Volcanoes are formed when magma from under the earth’s upper mandle gets its way to the surface! When it gets to the top, it erupts to form all of the lava flows and ash! Volcanoes erupt because of lots of pressure. The higher presure in the volcano means that the lava explodes more!

VOCABULARY Ash = a powdery residue that is left after something burning. Eruption = means when something outbreaks, like when lava comes out of volcanoes. Lava = a liquid that comes from the volcano. Heat = when something is hot in a high temperature.

CONCEPTS Volcanoes are vents of the earth! Sometimes people know the signs before a volcano erupts. Such as hot ground or steam from areas of the volcano! One of the erupted volcanoes have erupted in the Mayon, Philippines People who knew about the eruption had to evacuate!

MAYON PHILIPPINES VOLCANO Around 2009 a the volcano in the Mayon, Philippines erupted and raised the awareness level from level 1 to level 2! At the same time, small volcanic eruptions happened during its eruption! Believe it or not, 13 volcanic earthquakes were recorded and the brown ash from the volcano rose 2000 ft in the air. After a while, 83 volcanic earthquakes were reported and recorded with a awareness level of 3! About a week later it raised to a awareness level of 4 because of lava flows at the southern part of the volcano. After it was all dead, the levels went down!
