Literacy Updates Sara Wiebke K-3 Literacy Specialist

Elementary Principals’ Literacy Institute  Intensive, six-day professional learning opportunity  Focuses on literacy assessment and instruction  Emphasis on a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework while examining:  Effective English Language Arts core instruction practices  Evidence-based interventions  The use of DIBELS and other literacy assessments as part of data-driven problem solving approach  School literacy goals will be integrated into the design of the institute to support principals in achieving their goals.

Early Reading Software Vendors  53A-17a-167  Each program was designed to support individualized student learning through computer-adaptive software that matches student achievement levels to provide tailored instruction.  A public school that does not use the early interactive reading software in accordance with the technology provider’s dosage recommendations for two consecutive years may not continue to receive a license.  K-3 focus, if additional licenses, can be used with 4-6  K-3 population is used to decide size of license needed  Data only collected for K-3
