This result was to find answers as to whether the use of SMS is an effective way to communicate to parent on different school issues/events So that matrix.doc
Samples of 60 students; 60 students; 20 males and 14 females for S.5, drawn from both science and Arts age between 17 and students from S.1; 14 males and 16 females; pick randomly from 3 streams A, B and C; age between 13 and 16.
Parents sample size of 60, Ages: 30-55, Gender: 34 female and 26 males, each parent has 5 years and above experience in paying fees, each parent has at least 3 children in school. 24 parents with minimum level of education of at least( ability to read and write) 10 of high level of post primary and 26 of secondary education.

Most often: Highest participation in school related events if invited from time to time. Often: Moderate participation and involvement in the activities in the school if invited from time to time. Not often: Low involvement in the school activities and events if invited from time to time.
It was found out that not all parents can read and write, some parents don’t have mobile phones and thus they may not access mobile massages. Instant messages from the mobile communication companies have made some people fail to read solicited SMS and thus in most cases deleted instantly. Parents with mobile phones only read messages from contacts in their phone memory
Parents who can’t read just use the mobile phones to make or receive call and thus less attention to reading SMS. SMS has some abbreviations which most parents are not conversant with.
Most parents with reading ability appreciate receiving SMS from the school however some SMS or messages are received when already the recipients have made other programs. That SMS should be sent 3 times with a one week allowance to give room for programming. Because of many instant messages from Tel communication companies, parents tend to ignore messages where the sender is not recognized.
Response to content where the sender is known especially messages from contacts in the phone memory. Education content involves, student’s marks, events in school and fees/health alerts concerning the school.
Young parents are more active in reading and responding to SMS. Older parents may tend to ignore SMS. Female parents write and respond more than males. Activeness may vary depending on different factors e.g. academic progress and fees payment
