Testing SAT Test Reading, Math, Writing (optional) Students must register with College Board online at (cost $54.50) May 7, 2016 (given at MHS – deadline 4/8/2016) June 4, 2016 (deadline 5/5/2016) October, November, & December dates in fall

Testing ACT College entrance exam that measures skills in English, Math, Reading, and Science. Writing section is optional; check school requirements. Cost is $56.50 While many students only take the SAT, students are encouraged to take the ACT for an additional score to report to colleges in the application process. June 11, 2016 (deadline 5/6/16) September and October dates in fall

ATTENTION: SAT and ACT scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to the college or university to which the student is applying! Students must indicate that they wish to have their scores sent electronically at the time they register for the test. – Test scores are NOT part of the transcript and will not be sent by counselors or the counseling office

Testing ASVAB  Entrance exam and career interest inventory for students considering entering the military.  Given in November at MHS or with a recruiter.

Financial Aid We will hold a joint Senior Parent/Financial Aid Night on Thursday, September 22. A financial aid representative from PHEAA will explain the financial aid process and answer your questions. We will also hold two FAFSA completion sessions to assist families with completing this application; November 5 and January 14.

FAFSA  “ Free Application for Federal Student Aid”  ALL students pursuing post-secondary education should submit this form in order to be considered for federal and state aid.  Please attend our financial aid night for more information!

Scholarship Opportunities How do you find out about scholarships? Scholarship lists are updated regularly on the high school’s website; applications are either online or in the Counseling Office Surf the web – scholarship search websites such as Parent/student’s workplace, organizations to which you belong, community resources Individual colleges/universities offer scholarships to incoming freshmen students

CAUTION! Beware of advertisements for scholarship services that ask you to pay money to find out about scholarships! You can do this on your own for FREE!

Let’s talk about what juniors should be doing NOW!  Continue taking self-assessments in Naviance  Research, explore, and visit schools that will provide the education necessary to pursue the career of their choice  Job Shadow

 Register for the SAT and or ACT in the spring: May or June  Meet with alpha counselor to discuss future plans and post-secondary options  Narrow down a list of colleges  Research scholarship opportunities  Create a list of activities, awards, honors received while in high school (grades 9-12)  Students should plan to begin completing college applications as early as September  All applications submitted by Thanksgiving
