Veterans
More than half of the 2.6 million Americans dispatched to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan struggle with physical or mental health problems. I’ve searched some pics about veterans on website. I have to say it really makes me extreme heavy, though I am not an American and I haven’t experienced wars.
Why is this a social justice issue? 1.In the poll of the Washington Post, one in two say they know a fellow service member who has attempted or committed suicide, and more than 1 million suffer from relationship problems. 1.More than half of the 2.6 million Americans dispatched to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan struggle with physical or mental health problems. Those problems ruins their lives. 1.DEMOGRAPHICS of HOMELESS VETERANS 12% of the homeless adult population are veterans 20% of the male homeless population are veterans 51% of individual homeless veterans have disabilities 50% have serious mental illness 50% are age 51 or older
Any ties to other social justice issue? 1.Be unemployed for their disabilities 2.Fair of benefits for veterans 3.Homeless people 4.Mental health issue(PTSD etc.) 5.Suicide issue 6.families’ problems
What can we do? Any Good news? 87% in poll are proud of their service in military. I hope veterans can be treated fair enough. They deserve it. Their physical and mental injuries are true and painful. Besides The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA),there are also some coalitions for veterans. For example, National coalition for homeless veterans, and SAMHSA provide service for their mental health.
