Metaphysics Aristotle and Plato

Metaphysics Metaphysics is most generally, the philosophical investigation of the nature, constitution, and structure of reality. It also is the branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, cause, time, and space.

Aristotle Aristotle lived between 384 and 322 BC Aristotle grew from being Plato’s pupil to being an independent thinker and rival When Aristotle articulated the central question of the group of writings we know as his Metaphysics, he said it was a question that would never cease to raise itself. Aristotle wrote 14 books, the early of which give background information and survey the field before his time The Metaphysics is one of the most helpful books there is for contending with a question asking of which is one of the things that makes up a human. Aristotle called metaphysics the first branch of philosophy

Plato Plato lived between 428 and 347 BC in Athens, Greece Influenced Aristotle Many of Plato's works survived the centuries Was known for his notable ideas on the Theory of Forms, Platonic idealism, platonic realism, and metaxy along with many others Became the primary Greek philosopher, his works were then copied throughout Europe

Metaphysics – compare Aristotle and Plato Both men believed in the concept of forms Both contemplated man’s existence in the world and the significant of that existence. Both men founded schools, Plato's school was the Academy at which Aristotle studied. Aristotle’s school was the Lycum, which was partially financed by Alexander the Great. Plato and Aristotle both held distinct notions with respect to their theories of knowledge, even though both argue that it is only through ration that true wisdom is discovered Both men were from Ancient Greece Both preferred government Both influenced by Socrates They met each other in the Teaching Academy in Athens Explain in video where they get their reasoning's for things whether its off or reason or faith

Metaphysics - contrast Aristotle Plato The starting point of his metaphysics is his rejection of Plato’s Theory of Forms He rejected Plato’s ideas as poetic but empty language, as a scientist and empiricist Aristotle preferred to focus on the reality of the material world His work is metaphysics is motivated by the desire for wisdom, which requires the pursuit of knowledge of its own sake In Plato’s theory, material objects are changeable and not real in themselves Plato defined the concept of forms differently from Aristotle Plato developed his ideas from within and applied them to the outside world, while Aristotle took his ideas from the outside world and applied them within Explain differences of the positions in video
