How to help us access Health Care ‘reasonable adjustments’

Let our helpers be there.

Large print.

Symbols. Pictures.

Clear signs.

Put up signs so we know where to get help.

Help us find our way. Colours help. A person could show us where to go.

When we make an appointment, ask what help we will need.

Offer us the first or last appointment.

Give us a different place to wait.

Give us more time.

Give us extra help.

Have reception desks at the right height for wheelchairs.

Come and tell us if it is our turn to see the Doctor.

Make space for wheelchairs in your waiting rooms.

Make sure we can get on your beds.

Ask us to visit before we have treatment.

Make sure you have the right equipment. How would you weigh the lady who comes in a wheelchair?

If you ask another part of the NHS to help us, tell them what help we need.

If I often come into hospital, make it easy. Health services call this ‘open access.’

Disabled Parking Give us enough. Make sure it is used properly. Help us if it is full.

Good lighting.

Hearing Loops.

Use words that we know.

Help us with transport to appointments. Or come and see us.

Look after our carers.

Tell us what is happening.

Talk to us and our carers.

Give us easy information about complaints treatment appointments.

Letters we can understand.

Menus we can understand.

Give us toilets and bathrooms that we can use if carers have to help us.

Invite us to your patient groups.

Ask us about local services.

When we leave make sure we have enough help.
