Chemistry’s Twilight

Chemical Reactions cause a change in substances and a change in energy. You cannot create or destroy energy in a chemical reaction. Energy can only be changed. Everything is that is there in the beginning is there in the end. There are four types of chemical reactions: synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, and double replacement.

SYNTHESIS REACTION: Definition: Two or more reactants resulting in one product.

Bella Swan & Edward Cullen

DECOMPOSITION REACTION : Definition: One reactant results in two or more products.

++

SINGLE REPLACEMENT: Definition: One single uncombined element replaces another in a compound (combination). [Two reactants result in two products.]

++

DOUBLE REPLACEMENT: Definition: Parts of two compounds (combinations) switch places to form new compounds (combinations). Two reactants result in two products.
