“It’s great to be alive!”

AGENDA: 1.Review “A Description of the Morning” and examine the multiple choice answers. 2.Questions on the Sula essay? 3.Aristotle’s Poetics: background and begin reading.

“A Description of the Morning” Working with the person sitting next to you, review your answers on the multiple choice questions. If there are any discrepancies, resolve them using the text. Explain to one another: how did you approach and answer each question? We will then go over the answers as a group.

Aristotle’s Poetics: Together with Plato (his teacher) and Socrates (Plato's teacher), Aristotle is one of the most important founding figures in Western philosophy. He was the first to create a comprehensive system of Western philosophy. Much of our understanding of rhetoric and literature is based on Aristotle’s treatise, Poetics.

Homework Assignment - Due Monday: 1.Read and annotate (mark!) the provided excerpt from Aristotle’s Poetics. 2.On a separate sheet of paper, identify Aristotle’s definitions of the following terms: poetry, comedy, tragedy, plot, character, and thought.

Sula Revised Essays are due Monday as well! Type your revised essay. Use a 12-point font. Please have this ready at the BEGINNING of the PERIOD on Monday.
