THE PARDONER’S TALE  What did we learn about the pardoner in the prologue?  (Hint: Refer to page 114)

PARDONER’S TALE  Teaches a moral lesson.

PARDONER’S TALE HIGHLIGHTS 

PARDONER’S TALE  Keep in mind there will be a moral to the story  Also, be thinking of the 3 types of irony in order to complete the chart when are finished.

PARDONER’S TALE  Avarice: extreme greed. Also, the root of evil.(Pardoner is guilty of this!)

PARDONER’S TALE  Plague: the black death. Killed thousand of people in Europe during this time.

PARDONER’S TALE  Seven sins which needed pardoning included: pride, avarice (greed), lust, anger, gluttony, envy, sloth

PARDONER’S TALE  What do you think the old man is a symbol of? Is he death or simply an old man?

PARDONER’S TALE  The three rioters swear to kill off death because he took their friend from them.  While looking for death, they find a pile of coins under a tree. (Greed to follow, don’t worry!)

PARDONER’S TALE  Two rioters decide to kill the other by stabbing him, but he tried to kill them by buying poison. All three end up dead.  Moral of the story: Greed is the root of all evil.

IRONY  Now, complete the irony side of the worksheet by identifying three examples of the three types of irony along with an explanation. This is due at the end of class.  If you finish early, you can start on your vocabulary sentences.
