August 2008 Terms used in floriculture: Horticulture  Cultivation  Processing  Sale of fruits, nuts, vegetable, ornamental plants and flowers  It contributes over 25 billion dollars to the U.S. economy every year.

August 2008 Terms used in floriculture: Horticulture industry consists of four major divisions:  Pomology: tree fruits  Olericulture: vegetables  Floriculture: flowering plants  Landscape and nursery industry: grasses, annual plants, perennials, shrubs, and trees in the landscape

August 2008 Terms used in floriculture: Agriculture  Production of plants and animals to meet basic human needs. Includes three areas of plant science:  Horticulture  Agronomy  Forestry

August 2008 Terms used in floriculture: Ornamental horticulture  Growing and using plants for their beauty  Ornamental plants are used for their aesthetic qualities and their appeal to the human senses
