Wales’ Air Quality Forum November 2015 ANY QUESTIONS?

FRS Front Line Capability Geographically spread across the three respective FRS in Wales, the following capabilities are available – Survey Meters (Frontline appliances & IRU’s) Electronic Personal Dosimeters (Frontline appliances & IRU’s) Gas Detectors (IRU’s & FRS procured provision risk based)

RADOS 200

Although the RADOS 200 will detect both gamma and beta radiation (with appropriate probe attached), it cannot positively identify the isotope emitting the beta particles or the gamma emissions. The RADOS 200 does not detect neutron emissions or alpha particles and therefore cannot be used as a reliable indicator that an area is free from alpha or neutron radiation.

Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD)

The EPD is capable of measuring Gamma dose as: Personal absorbed accumulated dose in either μSv or mSv. This displayed as H10 on the LCD screen. Personal dose rate in either microSieverts/hour (μSv/h) or milliSieverts/hour (mSv/h). Although capable of measuring beta particles the EPD is expected to be worn inside any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD)

Initial Dose Rate Alarm - Continuous double beep μSv/hr Dose Constraint Alarm – Continuous dual tone - 5 mSv Exceptional Dose Alarm – continuous single tone mSv Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD)

Zellweger Impact Pro Personal multi-gas monitor (Impact Pro)

The Impact Pro can continually and simultaneously monitor: The Oxygen concentration within the atmosphere measured by percentage volume in air The presence and concentration of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulphide measured in parts per million (ppm) The presence of flammable gases measured in % of Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) The Impact Pro is calibrated for Methane.

DIM Suite of Equipment

DIM Suite of Equipment ( gases and vapours ) The HAPSITE® Smart Plus Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) Drager Simultest Kit

DIM Suite of Equipment ( gases and vapours ) The ppb RAE 3000 is a compact, lightweight, rugged, battery operated, field portable, Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) monitor; often referred to as a Photo-Ionization Detector (PID).

GfG G460 ( gases and vapours )

GfG G460 Red High Alarm Red Alert!

GfG G460 Amber / Orange Low Alarm Caution!

GfG G460 Green All gas values measured are within normal range.

GfG G460 The FRD DIM G460 has been configured with several sensors to support FRS activities at CBRN(E) events and HazMat incidents. These sensors are split across two units and are configured as follows: Unit 1 Oxygen, LEL (Methane)*, Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulphide and Hydrogen Cyanide. Unit 2 Oxygen, LEL (Methane)*, Chlorine and Ammonia. *Explosimeter function calibrated to Methane’s Lower Explosive Limit (LEL)
