Navigating DegreeWorks A Roadmap to Your Degree Presenter: Emily Schrynemakers CCAPP/Division of Science

What is DegreeWorks?  A digital checklist of your degree requirements  It maps courses you have completed at City College into categories  For transfer students, it includes courses from previous colleges (if the transfer credits were evaluated)  An easy way to see what you have completed / what is still left to obtain your degree  Closely tied with financial aid eligibility (if applicable to you).

How do we access DegreeWorks?  You log in to DegreeWorks through the CUNY Portal, not CUNYFirst (  Type in your username and password  Click on “Student Advisement / Degree Audit” on the left hand side.  Your degree audit will open up automatically. Note: You only have access to your own audit.

What do we see?  Take note of your degree type, your major, the legend, and student groups.  If you’re a CCAPP student, you will have the student group HSPP.

Degree Block  DegreeWorks is divided into several “blocks.”  Each block contains different information to help you better understand your audit.

CUNY Skills Block  The CUNY Skills Assessment Requirement block shows whether you have completed the CUNY skills assessment tests.

General Education Requirements Block

If you came in with an Associate’s Degree…

Major Block  If you have officially declared your major, your DW audit will have a major block. This is where you will see major, second major, minor, concentration and college option courses.

College Option

Elective Credits: Your Bucket & Contributory vs. Non Contributory Courses  In order to receive financial aid (TAP students only) the courses you register for must be deemed “contributory” – that is, they go towards your intended degree.  In addition to Pathways courses, Major Requirements and College Option Courses, you are allowed a certain number of “free electives” – the number of credits show up in this section above: the free elective bucket.  If a course isn’t “contributory,” this triggers an ineligibility flag in FACTS.

Non-contributing Grades  These courses are listed as “non contributory” because the student either: failed, withdrew or repeated a course. They fall into this separate “non- contributing grades” category.

What if…?

GPA & Term Calculators  This function lets you see what your GPA will be at the end of your current semester.  Classes you’re currently enrolled in appear automatically in the fields.

Remember, DegreeWorks is Not…  An official/unofficial transcript.  Students can easily view their unofficial transcript using CUNYFirst.  Students can request an official copy online through the registrar: request.cfmhttp:// request.cfm  DW is not meant to be a replacement for seeing an advisor.  Students are encouraged to see an advisor every semester to track their progress, ask questions and obtain clarification about what they see on their DegreeWorks audit.  DW is not a tool used to apply for graduation.

Tips  Make sure you always access DegreeWorks through the Mozilla Firefox browser.  Remember that DW does not replace your advisor.  If you see an error or discrepancy on your DW audit, report it to Mrs. Archer. (For inquiries outside of the Division of Science, see your Division’s DegreeWorks Liaison).
