RESPONSIBILITY IN FIFTH GRADE Preparing for Middle School Being ready to learn with supplies, homework, agenda, etc. Bringing lunch to school or having money in account Parent Signatures Being aware of transportation home from school Please help your student develop responsibility for themselves and their belongings as they prepare for middle school this year. Teacher classroom phones are for teacher use, not for when students need to call parents when they forget something.

HOMEWORK On the days they are with their RELA teacher, they will receive math/science homework On the days they are with their math teacher, they will receive RELA homework Please check their homework folder nightly.

GRADES Students should assume all work assigned will be taken for a grade. If a student receives a grade below a 70, they will have the option to redo the assignment and take an average of the two grades for their final grade. We do our best to update grades in Home Access Center (HAC) at least every two weeks. As a parent, you have access to log in and check on your student’s grades. Graded papers will be sent home in the yellow Thursday folder. Please check the Thursday folder, sign it and return.

MISSING AND INCOMPLETE WORK Students are RESPONSIBLE for completing work that is assigned to them in an appropriate amount of time. All students work at different paces. Students may be asked to stay in for recess to complete work, but they will never be asked to stay in more than 2 or 3 days a week. Graded work should be completed at school. Incomplete and missing work can have an impact on a student’s grade.

DRESS CODE Students should wear shoes that have a back. Athletic shoes should be worn on PE days Girls No Make-up Shorts should be an appropriate length Please be sure to check SWE’s handbook for a complete list of dress code regulations.

FOOD AND SNACKS IN THE CLASSROOM Only water is allowed in the classroom. Students should not bring breakfast (from school or outside of school) into class with them in the morning. Each morning, students will have a snack time. The snack should be HEALTHY No chips No candy Suggestions are: Fruit, fruit cup, yogurt, veggies, gold fish, fruit snacks, etc.

CAFETERIA BREAKFAST AND LUNCH School Lunch is now $2.20. School Breakfast is $1.40. Students eating breakfast at school will need to get their breakfast before 8:00. Students are allowed to purchase 1 salty item, 1 sweet item, and 1 ice cream per day.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL Morning Arrival: Supervision does not begin until 7:30am. Students will not be dismissed to the classrooms until 7:45. Students are counted tardy at 8:05am. Dismissal: Most importantly, make sure your student is aware of how they are getting home daily. If there is a change, please send a note with your student. If it is a last minute change, please call the front office and they will let us know. We do not always check our s or voic s in time to let a student know of a change in dismissal. Front Car Riders - East of W. Lake Houston (same side of school) Cafeteria Car Riders - West of W. Lake Houston (opposite side of school)
