Dzhokhar Tsarneav falls under this theory because the theory states that criminal behaviors are learned in interactions with others, and a person is likely to become a criminal if the person who has the greatest influence on them strongly supports criminal activity. This can be clearly seen by Tamerlan, Dzhokhar’s older brother. Tamerlan was never naturalized and never attended school like Dzhokhar and he was mad the Olympic boxing team wouldn’t let him join. Once their father left his mom, Dzhokhar’s male role model was gone. Tamerlan deeply believed in and practiced Islam with his mother. Once his father was gone, the two forced Dzhokhar to practice and he instantly picked it up; to the point of radicalization. He began watching terrorist videos, tweeting threats, and have dreams of killing people in the name of Allah. His friends even began to notice. If Tamerlan and his mother did not force Dzhokhar to practice Islam, he would not have become radicalized and carried out the bombings. DIFFERENTIAL-ASSOCIATION THEORY
