 What is the EEOC and what is it all about?EEOC  The EEOC stands for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission  They support job candidates and employees against employers discriminating against them due to: age, race, disability, or sex according to federal law. employers can’t discriminate against an employee filing, participating, or complaining about a discrimination that happened in the workplace.

 Unwelcome sexual advances  Requests for sexual favors  Other verbal or physical harassment  EEOC involvement in sexual harassment case only if the company has 15 or more employees  Quid Pro Quo: sexual favors are requested with a reward of advances in the workplace

 A male co-worker harassed a female food server by wanting to see her outside of the work place and touching her inappropriately  Resort at Squaw Creek ignored the female worker’s complaints and demoted her to a part-time bartender position  Resort at Squaw Creek will pay $30,000 to the female employee, strengthen it’s sexual harassment policies, mandate annual training to its supervisors/managers, and have agreed to report any job discrimination complaints to the EEOC

 Anyone can be sexually harassed Male or female Student or teacher Employee or boss  Avoid being accused Know what qualifies as sexual harassment Keep to yourself in the workplace

1) Review your employee handbook 2) Determine who to report to 3) Request a face-to-face meeting 4) Follow up in writing 5) Tell your employer exactly what happened and exactly what you want 6) Follow up on progress 7) Report to EEOC if no progress has been made

 Be professional  Be assertive  Dress appropriately  Act appropriately  Avoid staying late  Do not encourage vulgarity  Form a club against sexual harassment

 Sexual harassment is not an issue to be ignored.  Everyone should be encouraged to learn prevention starting as soon as RIGHT NOW!
