The Resurrection Learning Outcomes: To know: that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. To investigate: what happened to Jesus’ body on that Easter Sunday.

World on Fire: Jesus as Superhero

Matthew 28 Mark 16 Luke 24 John 20 What the Bible says about the first Easter Resurrection – the act of rising from the dead. Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead three days after he was crucified. Descriptions of this can be found in the four gospels in the New Testament.

The Case of the Missing Body… A crime has been committed. A body has gone missing. After the crucifixion Jesus’ body was wrapped in linen and placed in a tomb. A huge stone (probably weighing about two tonnes) was rolled across the doorway to the tomb. However, thirty-six hours later when Jesus’ friends came to the tomb they found the body missing. Both the Roman and Jewish authorities are terrified of the effect this news might have on people. Jesus’ followers are claiming the most amazing things for their dead leader. You have been employed to investigate this mysterious disappearance. You have one lesson to solve the crime and find out what has happened to the body. Are you ready for detective work!?

Detective teams You will be working in the following teams: Team A: Team B: Team C: Team D: Team E: Team F:

Homework Your investigation is almost complete! Your task is to write up an official report on the case, using the report sheets provided. This is due for the authorities: 25/06/12

Plenary What do you believe happened to the body? A)Jesus rose from the dead. B)The Romans took the body away and buried it. C)The disciples stole the body to make it look as though Jesus had risen from the dead. D)Jesus wasn’t really dead - he went into a coma and then woke up. E)The women couldn’t see clearly in the early morning. They went to the wrong tomb. Write your answer on a post-it note and explain why you chose this example.
