Candidacy

When do I apply? Scope of Practice  Are you educationally prepared?  Are you confident?  Are you competent? DON’T FORGET TO LET THE BOARD KNOW!

Why do I have to sit an oral examination? What is the role of the Board?  Allows for independent assessment of safety and competence  Provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate and articulate your ability to manage and assess and manage routine and complex care situations  Your chance to shine!

What questions will I be asked? Varies for each applicant BUT key themes:  How does your role differ from other advanced practice roles?  How do you know you make a difference?  What is your rationale for the clinical decisions you make?  What do you do when a patient ’ s needs are outside your scope of practice?  How do you communicate the role to your peers and colleagues?  What are your future directions for the role

A final message…
