 Advantage Wellness Services is a traveling physician group who specializes in geriatrics providing primary care. They have nurse practitioners who travel to different independent and assisted living facilities in Florida.   The nurse practitioner’s have a collaborating physician who works with them and signs off on needed paperwork.  Advantage Wellness Services works with several companies to make sure residents receive the care they need such as lab, x-ray, and therapy companies.

 I found this company through a friend who was working their at the time. I went in to volunteer with them and they offered me a position for an administrative office assistant.  I work with the company full-time, but my manager stays with me two times a week after work to train me for this internship on different situations. I started going to facilities with nurse practitioners and in this case I change my hours and stay late.

 7 out of 10 people over 65 will need long term care and will ultimately move to an assisted living facility (“Resident Profile,”2014).  735,000 people currently living in assisted living facilities in the United States (“Resident Profile,”2014).  The centers of Medicare & Medicaid services provides insurance to 100 million people over the age of 65 a year (  From 2000 to 2010 there has been an increase of 24.6% more people over the age of 65 (“Aging Statistics,”2013).  By 2050, it is estimated that their will be over 1.2 million people over the age of 60 (“Aging Statistics,”2013).

 Insurance Verification  Creating Marketing Supplies  Follow an ARNP in Assisted and Independent Living Facilities  Transition to a meaningful use compliant office  Creating SOAP notes and superbills  Obtaining insurance authorizations for procedures  Marketing events  Health fair  Bill ECC Oversight Invoices  Bill PPD and Physical Invoices  Learn Kareo (EMR) practice management and billing  Some of these duties continue for multiple weeks depending on the complexity and amount of work

 According to the Morbidity and Morality Weekly report 25% of people living in a resident care community is depressed.  When going to the facilities with the practitioners I encountered this.  Using what I learned in my sociology of aging course (SYP4730) I can better handle these situations.

 15% of residents in Resident Care Communities were born in countries where English is not the primary language (Harrington 2014).  The cultural diversity class taught me how to handle different situations such as this.  Specifically, I learned how to relate to someone who a different background than myself.

Common Legal Paperwork for Geriatrics Do-Not-Resuscitate Guardianship Power of Attorney VA Paperwork Living Will Health Care Surrogate  In a study of 1,069 residents in nursing homes 69% of them had a do-not-resuscitate order (DNR).  Working with geriatrics legal paperwork is a huge issue that needs to be completed correctly.  The health care law class (PLA4522) helped me to understand these laws and make sure that I handle them appropriately.

 Advantage Wellness Services reaches out to the community for different events.  Part of my new responsibilities is to create marketing supplies and events.  CGS1000 and GEB3213 helped me to learn how to effectively use Microsoft office in order to create flyers and marketing supplies.
