GASB 68 – Impact to CSU Financial Statements Effective FY14-15, the CSU implemented GASB Statement No. 68 (GASB 68), Accounting and Financial Reporting for Pensions, and GASB Statement No. 71, Pension Transition for Contributions Made Subsequent to the Measurement Date. The Standard is designed to improve transparency regarding pension liability by requiring recognition of pension liability in the financial statements. APRIL 2016 YEAR-END GAAP TRAINING 3

GASB 68 – Determining Proportionate Share proportionate share Net pension liability of $5.5 billion is CSU’s proportionate share of the State of California’s net pension liability for the following defined benefit plans: a) Miscellaneous Tier b) State Peace Officers & Firefighters CSU’s proportionate share is based on the percentage of pensionable compensation which is considered a practical, systematic and rational approach.
