PINEY ORCHARD COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION RECAP APRIL 2014 – MARCH 2015

FINANCIAL UPDATE Completed Reserve Study (1 st in over 5 years) Completed 2013, 2014 audits Restructured reserve investment funds  Investments placed with Morgan Stanley  Insures that investments stay below bank insurance limits  Improved interest rates Corrected “rain tax” bills on erroneous plats/lots Approval of 2015 budget

INFRASTRUCTURE Redesign of community center pond  Additional fountain/aerators  Grasses and other landscape plants to discourage geese  All benches around community center pond replaced with composite benches which has eliminated carpenter bees Nature Preserve  Mitigation of invasive trees at back meadow  New trail signage  Color coded trail markers to be installed  All bird/duck boxes cleaned  Benches being replaced with composites Beginning renovation of community center  LED lighting replacements; Hallway, office and library ceiling lighting and sprinkler head replacements 28 Storm water management ponds inspected by AA county

INFRASTRUCTURE ( CONT’D ) Tree replacements completed Tennis courts and multiple walking paths repaved (ongoing repaving of more paths) Community Center Outdoor Pool – Updated with red brick coping stones and new white coat. Indoor pool & spa drained and cleaned over December holidays Island Pool  Kiddie pool – drained and new whitecoat Tot lot inspections - Completed April 1, 2015 Evaluating installation of electric car charging station

RECREATION FACILITIES Fitness Center Committee  New bike purchased  New mat holder created and installed  New hand wipe dispenser & trash containers installed

ASSOCIATION EVENTS Appointment of Jen St. Clair to Board of Directors Architecture Review Committee  Clarification of Architecture Review Board vs committee memberships  Meetings will be held in compliance with MD open meetings laws POCA participation at Piney Orchard Elementary Back-to-school night  Yielded potential new volunteers Board of Directors  Completed Board training  Met for a Piney Orchard strategic planning session  Initiated actions to “Oppose” proposed Tolson Landfill. (actions ongoing).

VENDORS & CONTRACTS Negotiated and implemented a 5 year contract with CMC Exercised final option year with Brickman Landscape Contract 2015 Renewal Contract with Piney Orchard Swim Team completed Renewed fitness classes for 2015  Winter & Spring seasons including Zumba, Tennis and Water aerobics.

ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE Spring and Fall Yard Sales at the community center very successful. 5th Annual Street Festival was bigger & better than previous years July Movie night at the Island Pool was a great “splash” with residents Santa event held at Clubhouse well attended. Holiday Toys for Tots Campaign showed the generosity of the POCA residents December NYC Bus trip sold out 2 buses - additional 3 rd bus added & sold out.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE Piney Orchard Web site redesigned and improved Web “Blasts” are working and sent each Friday. Residents can sign up online. Facebook Pages reaching hundreds with daily/weekly updates: Piney Orchard Community Association Piney Orchard Street Festival Please “Like” these pages

SAFETY COMMITTEE AA County reduced speed limit on Piney Orchard Parkway moving from Stream Valley to Woodwardville from 40 mph to 35 mph. AA County doing studies on the following items:  Crosswalk from Summer’s Run to Community Center  Lighting survey on Strawberry Lake Way, Casaurina and Stream Valley. Study needed to correct for issues caused by tree growth under/around street lights  Potential for needed traffic signal at Stream Valley and Piney Orchard Parkway Working on National Night Out event which would take place in August.
