Many people believe that the top links thrown up by search engines are based on content that is relevant and accurate. For many years web designers have tried different techniques to get their sites to the top of search engine lists. The same techniques these designers used for this can also be used to push political propaganda. CASE FILE No 1

During a unit of work on WWII a class is studying the holocaust. For homework the class are asked to research the gas Zyklon and to find out about its effects. The teacher suggests that the class should concentrate on educational sites and recommends using the term “edu” in their searches. CASE FILE No 2
