What I Wish I had Known about Data before I Became Head of Maths Andrea Cumming Assistant Head Dorothy Stringer

Why is Data Important to a Head of Maths? – How well do you know the Maths of pupils in your classes? – How well can you know the Maths of 1500 children!

Why is Data Important to a Head of Maths? Data is knowledge Data is knowledge – Which pupils are underperforming? – Do you totally rely on teachers’ recommendations for set changes/extra support/…..? – What factors are affecting performance?

Why is Data Important to a Head of Maths? A Year 8 parent telephones. My son has always been good at Maths. He was in the top set in primary school and you put him in set 3 at the start of the Year 7. He came 2 nd in his end of year test, but you didn’t move him up although you moved his friend up who got the same as him. He really likes his teacher, but the work has been too easy for him all year. I want him moved up immediately.
