 The Two Sides Americans in 1775British in 1775 No National Government No Financial System Poorly Trained Citizen-Soldiers No Navy Strong National Government Richest Country in the World Well Trained and Experienced Army Largest and best Navy in the World The table below shows what each side was like in 1775, when the Revolutionary War Check out the Revolutionary War Chart and answer the questions.

 1.The British were fighting this war to control a colony 3000 miles away. 2.How would you feel fighting for something that is 3000 miles away? 3.What were the Americans fighting for? Most Important Factor

 So Who Won?

 Why did Britain lose? 1. Distance 2. Time 3. Terrain 4. Allies 5.Tactics How would the long distance between Britain and the US affect Britain? How would the time for reports and orders to reach British troops in America affect Britain? Why would the size of America and the vast plains and mountain ranges pose a problem to the British? Why would America’s allies and Britain having no allies be a problem? Why did Americans use lots of guerrilla tactics?

 Why did Britain lose? Distance Time Terrain Allies Tactics TIME 1.Contact between England and the battlefront was delayed by weeks because messages had to travel by ship across the Atlantic Ocean. 2.Contact between the Americans was much faster because messages did not have to travel that far.
