Once emergency has passed the siren and voice will announce an all clear. Future capability being added to the system to include building speakers and scrolling message boards. Base Access Overview Badges must be worn above the waist at all times. Persons who do not have a NASA PIV (smart card) will be issued a Temporary Badge. The following information must be provided before arrival to receive an unescorted visitor’s badge: Full name as it appears on official photo ID Citizenship Affiliation (company name, school name, etc.) Dates access is required 48 hour notice is required for U.S. citizens to receive an unescorted visitor’s badge (business day/normal hour access). Longer stays or after-hour access (nights/weekends) require longer lead times. Minimum 30 day (depending on country) notice is required for foreign national citizens access. Escort badges (U.S. citizens only) are available for one day visits and can be requested upon arrival at the main base. Individuals with escort badges must be escorted by a permanently badged employee at all times. A Government issued photo ID is required to receive a badge and enter the base. Driver’s license must comply with Real ID Act of 2005. If visiting the facility for more than 30 days in one year then additional paperwork is required. Aviation Ground Safety Brief

General Lab/Experimenter Room Instructions and Safety Guidelines Smoking is allowed only in designated areas outside of each hangar. No smoking is permitted near any aircraft. When fire alarm sounds assemble in designated area away from the building. NOTE: Opening of hangar doors sounds a continuous bell, this is not the fire alarm. The fire alarm is a loud buzzing sound accompanied by flashing lights on each fire alarm. No open toed shoes are allowed in lab spaces, hangars or aircraft. Lab spaces must be maintained as neat and clean as possible. Experimenters are required to clean up lab spaces (including kitchen/break room) prior to leaving each day and at the completion of each project. Any damages to lab/experimenter rooms will be charged to the project. Labs are inspected prior to and after each project. Other tenants within the office space/lab areas of the hangar perform hazardous activities (lasers, radiation, etc.). Be aware of all safety signs posted on doors. Aviation Ground Safety Brief

Hazardous Material Guidelines The NASA Aircraft Office General Maintenance Manual, 830-GMM-0001, Section 3.1.1.2 addresses the management and use of hazardous materials for hangar operations. 3.1.1.2 Storage, handling, preservation, and disposal of hazardous materials: Hazardous materials shall be handled and stored in accordance with established environmental programs and OSHA standards. Materials such as oils, cleaning solvents, paint remover, paint thinner, water/methanol or other flammable material shall be stored in compliance with HAZMAT requirements. 3.1.1.2.1 Hazardous waste shall be staged (satellite accumulation point) at a designated and approved location and stored in compliance with Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Title 40, Protection of Environment, Sections 260-299. Disposal of hazardous waste will be in accordance with GPR-8500-3 Waste Management. 3.1.1.2.2 All Aircraft Office personnel shall report any observed hazardous conditions to the QAM/GSO as soon as possible. Environmental emergencies shall be reported immediately by observing personnel. Hazmat cabinets are available for use on the hangar floor in each hangar. A SDS for all materials must be placed in the folder on top of the cabinet. Aviation Ground Safety Brief

Hangar Instruction and Safety Guidelines All Hangars are operational! Aircraft are being moved, taxiing, and taking off/landing every day all around you. Be aware of your surroundings. Never walk in the propeller arc of any aircraft. No project equipment may be left unattended while on the hangar floor except in designated areas. Beware of and report any fluids on hangar floor to aircraft maintenance personnel. Keep hangar area clean and neat as possible. Clean up work areas at the end of each day. Be aware of sharp items hanging from aircraft that may cause injury (antennas, propellers, flaps, etc.). Only authorized maintenance personnel are allowed to move or operate aircraft ground support equipment (tow tractors, fork lifts, power carts, etc.) and hangar doors. Only aircraft maintenance personnel are allowed to attach/remove equipment to/from the aircraft structure itself. This includes all mechanical, electrical and data system connections. Only aircraft maintenance personnel are allowed to open/close an aircraft (entrance doors and panels). DANGER!! DANGER!! Aviation Ground Safety Brief

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Control FOD can damage numerous aircraft components (engines, control systems, power supplies, etc.). Aircraft have been damaged and destroyed due to FOD while operating on the ground and in flight. Work areas on the hangar floor and inside the aircraft must be kept neat and clean at all times. All areas, particularly aircraft interiors, will be inspected each day for cleanliness and neatness. No persons are allowed to leave a cluttered area unattended. All clutter must be cleaned up immediately upon completion of a task. Please pick up any debris and place in appropriate area or dispose of properly. Tool Control – STRICTLY ENFORCED! All experimenter tools must be inventoried upon arrival at WFF. Inventory is subject to periodic inspection by aircraft maintenance and/or quality assurance personnel. Report any lost tool to aircraft maintenance and/or quality assurance personnel. A lost tool can down an aircraft until found. No disciplinary actions will be taken for reporting a lost tool or missing item (Ref 830-GMM-0001, 2.14.6 / 2.14.7). Any project personnel who cannot manage their tools will lose the privilege of using their tools outside of their assigned lab, i.e. no tools in the hangar. Aviation Ground Safety Brief

Flight Line Safety Guidelines This is an operational airport! Aircraft are moving, taxiing, and taking off/landing every day all around you. Be aware of your surroundings. Stay behind the red lines when walking around exterior of a hangar. Do not approach fuel trucks fueling or liquid/gaseous oxygen servicing. No unauthorized access to ramps, taxiways, and runways (driving, walking, biking). Ramp access is only allowed when your designated aircraft is parked on the ramp. Contact maintenance personnel if driving access is needed to your designated aircraft or for loading/unloading equipment via the hangar doors. Beware of jet blast from jet aircraft (and APU exhaust) as well as rotor wash from helicopters parked on the ramp when walking between hangar and your designated aircraft. Jet and APU exhaust are extremely loud, hot and can cause burns from several feet to several yards away. Do not approach aircraft that have engines running or propellers/rotors turning. Wear ear plugs while working around an aircraft with APU running or while other aircraft are performing flight operations. Collect and dispose of any loose debris found on the flight line. Generic Safety & Operating Information Upload/Download Points of Contact (in order): Project Manager Operations Engineer Aircraft Maintenance Personnel Daily Project Meetings: Daily project meetings will be held at 1PM, Monday through Friday, until completion of the Project Test Flight(s): At least one representative from each instrument team is required to attend Come prepared to discuss current status of individual instrument uploads, questions/concerns, after hours requests, and test flight needs. After Hours Operations: Notify your Project Manager no later than the daily project meeting if you wish to work past 4:30PM on that given day. Notify your Project Manager no later than the daily project meeting on Thursdays if weekend access is desired. Requests made after these times may not be supportable due to late notice. Generic Safety & Operating Information Food/Drink Containers: To prevent spills and damage to aircraft or instruments, no non-sealable food/drink containers are allowed on the aircraft on the ground or in flight. Weight & Balance: Scales are located near each aircraft on the hangar floor. All items must be weighed and logged on the clipboard next to scales prior to installation. Sticker with weight/fuselage station location must be placed on all items. Sticker must be visible when item is in final installed position. Any items not logged or placarded with a sticker are subject to removal. Report all safety related items to one of the upload points of contact. N-159 Lab/Experimenter Room Instructions and Safety Guidelines All hazardous chemicals must be placed in hazmat cabinets. A SDS must be placed in the folder on top of the cabinet for all items, The hangar floor storage location is for shipping/receiving only. All work on instruments must be performed in experimenter rooms until installed on an aircraft. Personnel Protective Equipment (hearing protection, eye and skin protection, etc.) must be worn while performing hazardous duties. Cranial protection and fall protection required when working on top of an aircraft fuselage or wing. Fire extinguishers are located along each wall in the hangar bay.
