Pathway Courses 10TH GRADE - LINKED WITH ENGLISH 10 COURSE (More information to come) 11TH GRADE - CAREERS WITH CHILDREN This course is designed to prepare students to work in fields dealing with young children. It covers the developmental stages of children before birth to age six. Students learn through practice how to set up a day care facility, and planning and implementing learning activities in art, music, language, math, and science. Through field trips and classroom speakers, students will learn firsthand about careers that deal with children. 12TH GRADE - EDUCATION CAREERS Students in this class study the nature and scope of the school system, the duties and opportunities of the professional teacher, factors relative to success in teaching, and credentialing requirements. Students prepare for and take the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and have an opportunity to observe and work in CUSD elementary and intermediate schools.
Pathway Opportunities COLLEGE BOOT CAMP (summer of 9 th and 10 th grade) Boot Camp, a 3-5 day program hosted at Fresno State, serves as an opportunity for pathway participants to gain leadership and advocacy skills, to increase awareness of admission requirements, financial aid, scholarships, and teacher preparation. WRITING WORKSHOP (summer of 9 th and 10 th grade) The workshops are designed to enhance reading and writing skills to prepare student for the CBEST and EAP examination.
Pathway Opportunities SATURDAY ACADEMY (during 11 th and 12 th grade year) The academy is designed to enhance teaching skills and to help build confidence in managing a classroom. With a focus on student engagement, the academy will prepare pathway students to qualify for paid summer employment in K-12 programs. YOUTH TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE (summer of 11 th grade) Pathway participants will be taught in state-of-the-art technology labs at Fresno State. Capitalizing on the latest innovations in technology, students will be equipped with the power of technology, for use now as a learner and later as a teacher. PAID INTERNSHIP (summer of 11 th and 12 th grade) The paid internship is a position with the California Teaching Fellows Foundation. It provides participants with early field experience in working with school age students in grades K-12, while being employed in summer programs.
