Year 1 Science 6.P.1.1. What are waves? “Moving energy” Formed when a force causes vibrations through space or matter Vibrations form wavelike disturbances.
Waves and Wave Properties. A wave is a disturbance that carries energy from place to place. A wave does NOT carry matter with it! It just moves the matter.

What are Waves? A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy from place to place. The material through which a wave travels is called a medium. Ex: Gases.
PROPERTIES OF WAVES. Waves A wave is a means of transferring energy and information from one point to another without there being any transfer of matter.

Presentation transcript:

Activator You should download the new activator template from the science course in Canvas. It is labeled “Activator for to 01-22” in the Wave Energy module. It is on the bottom so be sure to go all the way to the bottom. If you would like a paper copy, please get one from the table at the front. Then, answer the following in the Monday Block… What type of wave does an electromagnetic wave use? What two fields make-up an electromagnetic wave? Can this wave travel through space? Why? Can a mechanical wave travel through space? Why?

Activator In the Tuesday Block, please answer and do the following… What is amplitude? How could you act out or physically show amplitude in both a transverse and a longitudinal wave? What formula do we use to calculate wave speed?

Activator In the Wednesday Block, write “no activator” In the Thursday Block, please answer the following…. What is a vibration? Which wave has to vibrate particles in order to move energy down the wave? How do you measure amplitude? How do you measure wavelength? What is the formula to calculate wave speed? How do you measure frequency? In the Friday Block, write “substitute”. Write “NO School” in Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
