The Factors that Influence Community Health Education Work

Contents of the Lecture

By the end of this lecture the student will be able to determine the general and specific factors that influence the provision of community health education work. Objectives of the Lecture

The Factors that Influence Community Health Education Work It can be General and specific factors

The General Factors It is any factor that affects the successful implementation of community health education programs. For example: 1.National planning, political factors and capacity. 2.Availability of data about the target population and intervention impacts. 3.Influence of socio-economic factors and special considerations regarding the age of target population.

The General Factors 4. Burden of the health problem to community, family and individual. 5. use of intervention in a multi-factorial setting. 6. Communication strategies to reach vulnerable and minority groups. 7. Engagement of all levels of the community (from government to individual) in the process.

Specific Factors These are three groups: 1.Factors related to audiences. 2.Factors related to the health educator. 3.Factors related to the environment.

1- Factors Related to Audiences 1.1. Demographic Factors: A. Age: try to choose community audience with similar age group. B. Gender: try to choose community audience with similar gender (either all of them male or all of them female). Because there will always be speeches that are more interesting to men than to women and vice versa.

1- Factors Related to Audiences 1.1. Demographic Factors: C. Racial/Ethnic/Religious/Cultural Background try to choose community audience with similarities. You expect that many audiences may come from different countries, ethnic grounds, etc.

1- Factors Related to Audiences 1.2. Group Membership: and this is very common in professional business lives; be sure to focus on issues relevant to this group; what their interests and needs are.

1- Factors Related to Audiences 1.3. Audience Size: In general, the larger the audience, the more formal we should be in language and delivery. Smaller audiences' size will allow a more relaxed presentation style.

1- Factors Related to Audiences 1.4. Audience's Time: try to choose most appropriate time for the audiences. And always adapt your time according to their time.

2- Factors Related to the Health Educator 2.1. Selection of the topic: should be interested by the audiences Personal factors of the health educator: Health educator should be:  Sincere  Has a good skill in demonstrating his knowledge.  Show respect for the audience.  Has Credibility.  Deliver a topic that is insulting to the audience or makes them feel uncomfortable.

3- Factors Related To The Environment The Physical Setting or Location plays an important role in delivering community health education. Location can have a significant impact on you and your audiences' attitude.

3- Factors Related To The Environment So, if possible try to check out the room prior to the speech. Determine if you need overhead projector, blackboard, chalks, microphone, flipchart, lighting, and AC system is working well. Try to minimize Background noise and interruption of the education.
