Edgewood ISD of San Antonio What’s Coming in 2012 Texas is implementing a new state test this year. The STAAR, State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness will be administered for the first time this Spring.

Edgewood ISD of San Antonio STAAR More rigorous than TAKS; greater emphasis on college and career readiness Grades 3 – 8 will test same grades and content areas as TAKS High School will include 12 End of Course exams in the four core areas

Edgewood ISD of San Antonio To graduate a student must receive a high enough cumulative score based on all tests taken Recommended program graduates have to perform satisfactorily on Algebra II and English III assessment Distinguished program graduates have to perform satisfactorily on the college readiness component of Algebra II and English III

Edgewood ISD of San Antonio District must provide accelerated instruction to each student who fails to perform satisfactorily on an assessment Student’s score on the assessment must be worth 15% of the student’s final grade on the course

Edgewood ISD of San Antonio TAKS is being phased out and STAAR EOC is being phased in for high school students beginning with this year’s freshman class

Edgewood ISD of San Antonio Although much is not known yet about the new state accountability system, it will form the basis for next year’s public report.
