Day Care

Background Day care was one of the concerns raised by members when the Executive met with departments between late October and early December. The Executive is preparing a brief discussion paper for the Annual General Meeting on Friday, May 13 th. It will describe the challenges that our members have with day care and outline possible strategies for improving the situation. There will be a preliminary discussion at the General Meeting on Wednesday, April 6 th.

Some possible strategies 1.Sharing of child care spots 2.Provide funding to hold spots over the summer 3.Extend eligibility of Scholarships for Dependents - $60,000 in Article 16.7 of the Collective Agreement 4.Negotiate child care benefits into the Collective Agreement 5.Establish a joint committee to study and make recommendations on child care 6.Raise fees for community users, if necessary, so they are not subsided
