SEVEN CRITERIA CATEGORIES OF MBNQA QUALITY AWARDS SEVEN CRITERIA CATEGORIES OF MBNQA Organizations that apply for the Baldrige Award are judged by an independent board of examiners. Recipients are selected based on achievement and improvement in seven areas, known as the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence: 1 Leadership 2 Strategic Planning 3 Customer and Market Focus 4 Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management 5 Human Resource Focus 6 Process Management 7 Business /organisational performance Results

The Deming Prize QUALITY AWARDS Given by the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers since 1951 Named after W. Edwards Deming who worked to improve Japanese quality after WWII Not open to foreign companies until 1984 Florida P & L was first US company winner

Deming Prize QUALITY AWARDS The Deming Application Prize Given to companies or divisions of companies that have achieved distinctive performance improvement through the application of TQM in a designated year. The Deming Prize for Individuals Given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the study of TQM or statistical methods used for TQM, or individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the dissemination of TQM. The Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units Given to operations business units of a company that have achieved distinctive performance improvement through the application of quality control/management in the pursuit of TQM in a designated year.

Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award QUALITY AWARDS Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award - designed in line with similar awards in other developed countries, like Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in USA, Deming Prize in Japan and European Quality Award. There are five awards consisting of: Large scale manufacturing organization Small scale manufacturing organization Large scale service sector organization Small scale service sector organizations and BEST OF ALL

Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award QUALITY AWARDS Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award Commendation Certificates Large scale and small scale Industrial sectors a) Chemical industry; b) Electrical and electronic industry; c) Food and drug industry; Gems, jewellery and allied industry Metallurgical industry; Textile industry; and g) Engineering industry and others Large scale and small scale service organizations Finance, Health Care, Information Technology, Utilities, and Others.

Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE FOR THE AWARD Applicant organization is located in India, Applicant organization has been in existence for at least three years as on last date of the application. Applicant organization is situated at one place or a unit of an organization housed at one location, Applicant organization has not been convicted by any court for deficiency in product or service and/or found guilty of financial irregularities by any regulatory authority or court for the period from 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2005. An undertaking to this effect will have to be submitted. Applicant organization is not manufacturing products, like tobacco and liquor etc which are injurious to health.

Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award NON - ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE FOR THE AWARD A Sub-unit which performs only support functions for the parent organization such as, sales, marketing, distribution, finance, human resources and health are not eligible. [A Sub-unit is a Unit or Division of a larger organization (Parent organization) which owns or has organizational and/ or financial control of sub-unit] If an applicant organization has earlier received an award, it is not eligible to apply for an award for next three awards. However, this condition will not apply to those applicant organizations which have received commendation certificate.

Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award ASSESSMENT CRITERIA for large scale organization – will be made on the basis of nine parameters, namely, Leadership; Policies, Objectives and strategies; Human resource management; Resources; Processes; Customer focused results; Employees’ satisfaction, Impact on environment and society; and Business results. for small scale organization will be made on the basis of six parameters, namely, Leadership; Human resource management; Processes; Customer focused results; Impact on environment and society; and Business results. Emphasis will be placed on quality achievement and quality improvement as demonstrated through the information provided by applicant organization.
