History MUSE is a British rock band formed in The band includes three musicians:  Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, keyboards);  Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals, vocals);  Dominic Howard (drums).

Matthew James Bellamy Born in Cambridge 9 June, Matthew wrote his first song and began his career as a musician at school. After school, Matt had a long trip to Europe. Having come back home, Matt joined his first band again, and soon Dangerous Records label offered them their first contract.

Chris Tony Wolstenholme Born 2 December, 1978 in the UK. A British bassist, back vocalist and one of the MUSE composers. He sometimes plays the electric guitar instead of bass and keyboards in live performances. He also participates in other musical projects. At the festival Rock Am Ring he played even the harmonica!

Dominic James Howard He is a MUSE drummer who began his creative path when he was 11, at the school jazz band. It was called “Carnage Mayhem” - in honor of Michael Jackson’s song. Dom is inspired by the drummers like Roger Taylor (Queen), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Dave Grohl (Nirvana) and many others.

Music style MUSE’s style is eclectic, in addition to the basics of alternative rock, it absorbs elements of different directions. MUSE’s most recognizable features are: extremely high vocal (falsetto) guitar riffs frequent use of the piano orchestral arrangements. In recent years, the band's sound has become less heavy.

Formation and early years ( ) In the early 90s, Matthew, Dominic and Chris played in different bands. The formation of MUSE began after Matthew had become a guitarist in Dominic’s band. They were in a difficult situation, when their second guitarist left. Then they asked their close friend Christopher Wolstenholme to learn how to play the bass guitar.

The First Album «Showbiz» ( ) The band met Dennis Smith, the owner of Sawmills, and signed a contract with him. The producer of the album “Showbiz” was J. Leckie, who had also produced Radiohead, The Stone Roses and The Verve. After the release the band went on tour with Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Origin of Symmetry (2001—2002) This album was an experiment with a variety of musical instruments, such as the church organ and mellotron. The sound had more Bellamy’s famous falsetto, aggressive guitar lines and keyboards instruments. The album is a transition from the stormy emotions of the previous album, to more balanced and lyrical depressive moods.

Absolution (2003—2005) Absolution (producer Rich Bones) was released in 2003 and debuted as No.1 in UK chart. Many songs have become hits. The album was originally intended to be motivating, with powerful orchestral accompaniment. However, everything has changed and the band made the songs sound more dramatically.

Black Holes and Revelations (2006— 2008) This disc was one of the most successful in the band’s discography: over a hundred thousand copies were sold within the first week after the release. It has got a platinum status, being sold in Europe by more than a million copies. It was extremely popular in the US, too.

The Resistance (2009—2011) It was the first album produced by the band itself. During the first week 451,000 copies were sold – it was a record for the band and for the whole UK that year. The Resistance debuted as No.1 in the charts of 19 countries and reached the 3 rd place in the US charts. It was even a better result than the previous album!

The 2nd Law (2012—2013) 6 June, 2012 YouTube promoted the trailer of the 6 th album, but soon it became known that the official anthem of the Summer Olympic Games in London would be «Survival» from the new album. July 13th the band presented its playlist. In the interview to New Musical Express MUSE announced the release of the next single «Madness».

Drones (2014) “Drones” is a flashback to the sound of earlier albums. The main themes of the album are ecology, the emotional disruption and the 3rd World war.

Intresting facts 13 years ago Matthew Bellamy thought about the career of a classical and jazz pianist. At the age of 12 he won a talent contest with a song of Ray Charles "What'd I Say". "It was my first show, and about 30 children applauded. I was so happy! Now it seems the buzz, but at that very moment I realized what I wanted to do!".

Rewards «Best Live Act» in Brit Awards (2005, 2007) «Best Alternative Act» in MTV Europe Music Awards (2004, 2006) «Best UK & Irish Act» (2004, 2007) «Best British Album» in Brit Awards. MUSE has received 38 awards out of 100 nominations in its history.

I strongly believe that MUSE is one of the greatest contemporary bands. In their songs different concepts of politics, peace and love intertwine, but mainly, I adore the magnificent music, which creates the atmosphere of something unimaginable and surprising. MUSE, completely justifying its name, inspires hearts of many people with the wonderful music!
