Special Projects Activity–WGs  P Standard for Environmental Assessment of Personal Computer Products (Rev.) P Standard for Environmental Assessment of Servers P1680.6Standard for Environmental Assessment of Complex Set Top Boxes (PAR pending)  P1857 Advanced Audio Coding  P3333 3D Model Creation Using Unprocessed 3D Medical Data 2Presentation to CS/SAB 3 June 2015

IEEE IEEE and NSF Joint Process Negotiations Stakeholders in both processes reached agreement in November to develop single server standard Key procedural details hammered out, including: –Creating an efficient and balanced joint process, recognizing the differences in each organizations procedural requirements –How to merge the work done to date by each group –Timeline Formal Joint Development Agreement between IEEE and NSF now ready for signature

IEEE IEEE and NSF Joint Task Group Joint Task Group (TG) comprised of voting members from IEEE WG and NSF 426 JC 4 stakeholder categories: –Manufacturers –Other industry (suppliers, recyclers, retailers and other types of businesses commercially engaged with the product) –Public health & safety/regulatory –User/consumer Each stakeholder category has 25% of the allowed votes Joint process recognizes and respects work done to date by both SDOs

IEEE IEEE and NSF Joint TG Timeline Goal to have jointly published standard within one year of signing the Joint Development Agreement Key milestones: –6 months to go to the first ballot –3 months to Joint Task Group resolution of first ballot comments

IEEE IEEE and NSF Joint TG Balloting The draft standard is balloted by each SDO separately using their procedures Ballot comments are resolved jointly, by the joint TG Ballot process and comment resolution may repeat until: –IEEE Sponsor Ballot has met its criteria for acceptance, and –NSF Joint Committee has achieved consensus

P Environmental Assessment of PCs, Tablets, and Monitors Criteria Development completed for: –Energy Conservation and –Material Selection Criteria Development underway for: –End of Life Management, Packaging, Environmentally sensitive materials, Design for EOL, Product Longevity, LCA, and Corporate Performance WG Decision to include Corporate Social Responsibility Face to Face meetings planned: Feb, May, Nov 2016 Draft of all Criteria: June 2016 (forecast) Begin Sponsor Ballot Process: Nov 2016 Stakeholder balance is a concern Footer text 7

IEEE P Officers (stable since April 2015) –Chair: Walter Jager (co-funded by GEC and ITI) –Secretary: Casandra Robinson (NIST) –Vice-Chair: Alexandra Degher (HP) Nov 19, 2015 Roster: 85 participants –45 voting members –36 observers –4 IEEE staff Working Group (WG) Status

WG Progress since June 2015 –Face to face meeting October 13-15, 2015  Focus on bringing closure to phase 1 SGs –9 criteria approved to draft standard –Energy SG finished developing its criteria –3 SGs launched: ESM, Corporate performance, and LCA –WG approved including a limited number of CSR criteria in the standard Recent Progress

Accelerating SGs to achieve closure on criteria and quality –New process being implemented to ensure that each criterion has an editor –Parallel criteria development within each SG –Consistent capturing of environmental benefit of criteria proposals –More use of offline commenting –WG driving closure on criteria that have strong opinions from WG members Reduce amount of editorial work being done at WG for each criterion Agreement on CSR criteria to be included within scope of standard Challenges and Actions

IEEE – Estimated Timeline to Completion (update) 3Q2015 Phase 1 SGs complete criteria development (Energy, material selection, EOL, and packaging) 4Q2015 Phase 2 SGs launched for remaining criteria categories 2Q2016 SGs complete criteria development 3Q2016 Compile and edit draft standard WG ballot 4Q Q2017 IEEE Publication Process Sponsor Publication of standard

P Complex Set Top Boxes The Working Group has been meeting via teleconference (using WebEx) since June Project Number: P Type of Document: Standard 1.3 Life Cycle: Full Use 2.1 Title: Standard for Environmental Assessment of Complex Set Top Boxes Includes devices with more than simple channel selection Next meeting will be February 11, 10: :00 ET 12 Presentation to CS/SAB 3 June 2015

P1857 Purpose and Usage  The P1857 family can be used for video and audio compression in any possible application systems where bandwidth and/or storage cost are sensitive, like internet video, broadcasting TV, surveillance video, etc..  Currently the first case of P1857 video has developed a complete industry chain from chips, encoders to end products. The main international chip manufactures including Broadcom, Mstar, Realtek, MTK, Huawei HiSilicon and others, encoder manufacturers including Sumavision, GMT, and Kuvision from China, and end product manufacturers including Sony, Samsung, Skyworth, Hisense and others have adopted P1857 video technology in their products.  P1857 video is adopted by China Central Television for their DTMB transmission. Wireless coverage in more than 15 provinces of China has been achieved, including Jiangsu, Anhui, Hunan, Guizhou, Fujian, Zhejiang, Gansu, Qinghai, Inner Mongolia and others, while more cities and provinces will be covered this year.  Other applications like internet video and surveillance video are also scheduled. 13Presentation to CS/SAB 3 June 2015

P1857 Published Standards , Standard for Advanced Audio and Video Coding-video Standard was published on June 04, a-2014, Amendment 1 of IEEE Std Standard was published on April 04, , Standard for Advanced Audio Coding Standard was published on Nov.12, , Standard for System of Advanced Audio and Video Coding Standard was published on Jan. 20, , Standard for Advanced Mobile speech and Audio was approved on 5 December 2015, and is slated for publishing on 31 March, Presentation to CS/SAB 3 June 2015

P1857 Working Groups P1857.4, Standard for 2nd Generation IEEE 1857 Video Coding The PAR was approved on Dec 11, PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2017 The draft was completed in middle of 2015, but later received new advanced technical proposals to further improve technical performance. Currently test works are being conducted and the draft is estimated to be finalized in the middle of P1857.6, Standard for Digital Media Content Description The PAR approval date: 11-Dec-2013 PAR Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2017 The visual object description part is 90% completed, work on audio object description will continue.
