Bell Assignment Solve the following equations. 1.x = x – 3 = 7 3.When you solve for x, what are you trying to accomplish?

Solving for a variable means getting that variable on a side by itself. You use inverse operations to get variables on a side by themselves. The inverse of sin is sin -1 or arcsin The inverse of cos is cos -1 or arccos The inverse of tan is tan -1 or arctan

What is the difference between inverse and reciprocal functions? When you find an inverse function, you are looking for the angle measure that gives you a particular value. When you find a reciprocal function, you are looking for the reciprocal of its corresponding trig function. sin -1 x = ½ Means which degree measure has a sine value of ½. csc x= ½ what is sin x? Means that since csc x = ½ then sin x will be the reciprocal of that value. So sin x = 2

Example 1:

Example 2:

Evaluate:

Evaluate when 0° < Θ < 360°

Finding inverse functions not on the unit circle. sine is positive in Quadrants I and II

Evaluate

Evaluate.

Analyze the problem below. Determine the mistake the student made.

To solve a triangle: Means to find all the missing side and angle measures. You will use trig ratios and also inverse trig functions to find these.

Solve the triangle.

Solve the triangle. Round to 2 decimal places. F 17 DE 32

Solve the triangle, given that K= 40° and k = 26. Round to 1 decimal place. K LJ

Many cities place restriction on the height and placement of skyscrapers in order to protect residents from completely shaded streets. If a 100- foot building casts an 88-foot shadow, what is the angle of elevation of the sun? 100 ft 88ft AOE
