Useful information's on the site / equipment available at RIKEN for the BRIKEN project Gabor Gyula KISS RIKEN Nishina Center Radioactive Isotope Physics Laboratory & MTA Atomki

Outline Rough timeline of 2015 & 2016 Overview on the F11 experimental site BRIKEN (black) plastics, support, workshop Available resource's at RIKEN – Ge detectors – Calibration sources – Energy degrader's – WAS3ABI – Manpower

Timeline 238 U beam: – Ca beam: – Access period (F11): November - April Spring beamtime: (tentative) from Eurica dismounting: (tentative) summer 2016

Experimental site: F m Beamline height: 170 cm 0.4 m0.7 m

Experimental site: F11 Beamline height: 200 cm

1.5 m 3.2 m 5.0 m F11- ICF11 – EURICA railF11 – Support structure

BRIKEN plastics Density measurement: done (0.938 ± 3.3%) Neutron rate measurement (two identical moderators made out of the Belen and Chinese plastics, same 3 He tubes) proves that the two materials are equal Manufacturing the polyethylene / support structure needs external workshop

Clover detectors At present 5 clover detectors are available at RIKEN However, all of them are either in use or damaged The repair and maintenance is expensive (only shipping to the US would cost about USD). Ge detectors from the members of the BRIKEN collaboration would be welcome…

Energy degreaser's To control the implantation point Fix thickness: 3 mm 4 mm 5 mm Variable thickness (remotely controlled) : 0.2 mm 0.6 mm 0.4 mm 0.6 mm 1.0 mm

Calibration sources 207 Bi – for Si calibration 252 Cf source – activity determination is in progress

Implantation detector WAS3ABI: 1st generation implantation detector – many electronics needed, – long calibration process, – BUT works well, excellent resolution, low threshold – Online data monitoring scripts are ready AIDA: next generation system, for sure it’s the future, commissioning is progress „Beam time is more expensive (consequently more valuable) than detector systems, therefore users should work with the best available equipment's„

WAS3ABI Size (current „box”): Height: 14 cm Width: cm Length: 90 cm

WAS3ABI in Kr campaign Threshold: ~ 100 keV Resolution: ~ 30 keV (and can be slightly improved…) 482 keV 976 keV 1048 keV 482 keV 976 keV 1048 keV

RIKEN’s suggestion for implantation setup electronics WAS3ABI Energy degrader's AIDA BRIKEN neutron counters & plastics BRIKEN neutron counters & plastics beam

Manpower Quite limited: – Technical staff is strong – Members of the decay group (available for BRIKEN) S Nishimura V. Phong G. G. Kiss Careful planning is needed!

Thank you for your attention!
