1.i. Tutor information Dr. Vassilis Protonotarios has a 5-year bachelor, a 2-year M.Sc. and a 4-year PhD in Agricultural Biotechnology, all from the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece). He is a Scientific Associate of Agro-Know Technologies. He has professional experience in the field of Organic Agriculture, both as an officer in the Directorate of Organic Agriculture of the Greek Ministry of Food and Rural Development as well from his participation in various EU projects concerning Organic Agriculture. He has worked with learning/training scenarios in various EU projects (such as Organic.Edunet & eCOTOOL) Module C533, Unit C533.3

Aims & objectives This unit aims to: provide a definition of the Open Educational Resources (OER) concept present a number of learning portals that provide access to OER guide the participants in searching and retrieving the appropriate OERs that will support their training scenarios Module C533, Unit C533.3

Learning outcomes & skills By the end of the component, the students are expected to: understand the concept, the role and importance of OERs get familiar with a number of learning portals that provide access to the OERs have the competence to search for and retrieve OERs for supporting their training scenarios collect a sufficient number of digital resources for supporting their scenarios Module C533, Unit C533.3

What are the OER? OER = Open Educational Resources Educational materials that are freely available and licensed in a way that gives users the legal permission to reuse – use the work “as-is” without having to ask permission revise - alter or transform the work to meet the user’s needs remix – combine the work with other works for an enhanced effect redistribute – share the work or derivative work with others. Why use OER?  Shared content becomes a vehicle for collaboration and connection  Shared materials are continually improved upon through revisions  Materials can be adapted and localized to fit the specific audience needs  Saves time, cuts costs, and reduces duplication of effort Module C533, Unit C533.3
