The Iroquoi Tribe With Jacques Cartier By, AJ, Alex L, and Sarah

On July 7,1534 Jacques Cartier first encountered 50 fleets of native American canoes. Jacques Cartier met with the chief of the tribe and traded a few items, but when more indians approached, he got scared and fired two cannons at them. The indians thought Cartier broke their peace and began to defend themselves, after being driven out by defence Jacques Cartier turned back towards the east and met the chief of a friendlier indian tribe called the Iroquoi. After a few days with two young men from the tribe, Cartier returned to France and a few months later he came back to America and settled Canada.

When Jacques Cartier settled Canada many indians suffered. Let's learn more about how Europeans affected the natives.

When Cartier arrived and traded with the Iroquoi tribe, the tribe was introduced to new diseases that they were not used to and sadly many Native Americans died and this is one of the problems that drove the tribe away. These are some of their medicines

When Cartier arrived there was more bellies to feed which means less food

When Cartier arrived at Canada with the Chirstian belief many of the native beliefs disappeared.

Now more about the tribe. The Iroquois tribe wore simple deerskin torsos, leggings, and moccasins. They lived in longhouses and ate a diet of deer, bear, fish, herbs, and berries.

NOW LETS CELEBRATE BECAUSE THIS IS OVER! AND ELMO WILL CELEBRATE TOO!
